The main thing to keep in mind though is the environment you’re going to carry this in and if you should opt for a stun gun capable of shooting at a distance instead. If you need a form of personal protection that’s easy to conceal then handheld tasers are a good option but if you don’t mind carrying one on your hip you may want to consider a cartridge stun gun.

A cartridge stun gun puts 15 feet of distance between you and an attacker. This is a huge benefit to your safety and gives you more control over a situation. These devices fire out projectiles that have barbed tipped ends that will stick in someone’s skin.

On the other hand a handheld taser requires less maintenance. There are no replacement parts needed and all you have to do is keep it charged at home. Both devices have their place but it’s up to you to decide which one better suits your lifestyle.

It comes with a pop out plug to recharge on the wall, a wrist strap to prevent snatch theft, a covered nylon case, and a kill switch tool just in case it’s needed.

So, compared to other tasers on the market you’re getting roughly the same standard features with the exception of the extremely high voltage. Most tasers fall somewhere between 300,000 and 800,000 volts.

This device is ideal for anyone wanting a form of personal protection that isn’t lethal. Tasers and stun guns are the best non-lethal alternative to firearms. Yes, you’ll need to make direct contact to your target in order to taser them. For best results make contact with bare skin. Since the prongs on this device are flat it’ll be more difficult to penetrate thick clothing.

Millions of volts sounds extreme. Is it really that high?

Yes, this device has an output of millions of volts. High voltage doesn’t result in any permanent damage to someone being tasered. High AMP’s is what can cause fatal injury or death. Most tasers have voltage between 300,000 and 800,000 volts so this device is definitely pushing the limits.

How many uses before the taser runs out of charge?

For handheld stun guns this comes down to different factors. It would depend on how long you hold the button down that activates the taser between uses and how charged it was before being used. Unlike the taser batteries with limited uses the Night Watchman can be recharged and used over and over.

How do you know when it’s fully charged?

Unfortunately, there’s no indicator light for a full charge. Our recommendation would be to let it charge overnight for at least 12 hours. A favorite feature is the kill switch that’s attached to the lanyard. If someone tries to take it from you the device can’t be used against you.

The biggest problem people have is how small it is. It’s only 3.5″ inches long so it may be a little hard to hold for some individuals.

Alternatives To The Night Watchman Stun Gun

Vipertek VTS-880

The Vipertek VTS-880 is the closest alternative in overall features to that of the Night Watchman. It’s a small compact taser you can conceal easily. It’ll easily slip into your pocket or purse. It has all the features of the Night Watchman except for the kill switch and it has lower voltage at 800,000.

It’s still more than enough volts to put a grown man on the ground. This taser is also a more affordable alternative to that of the Night Watchman. Other features include a non-slip rubber coating, top end LED flashlight, and it can be recharged from home.

In my opinion, I like the VTS-880 more than the Night Watchman. The millions of volts are more of a marketing ploy than a feature needed to make the device more viable. The VTS-880 and all Vipertek devices include a lifetime warranty.

Vipertek VTS-989

The Vipertek VTS-989 is a better pick if you’re looking for something a little bigger. The 3.5″ inch size of the Night Watchman is a big issue for a lot of people. The VTS-989 comes in at 6.5″ inches and feels solid in your hands. You’re going to feel better about moving around and trying to stun someone with it by comparison.

The VTS-989 also has many similar features such as the wrist strap and LED flashlight. However, it doesn’t have a kill switch. The prongs on the VTS-989 are spiked electrodes which make it easier to penetrate through thick clothing.

In my opinion, this device is great if you need something more sturdy to hold onto. It has molded hand grips and non-slip rubber coating and with it’s bigger size makes it feel more comfortable. The downside to that is that it would be more difficult to conceal.

Vipertek VTS-195

The Vipertek VTS-195 is a bit different than our other alternative options. This is a flashlight taser so it’s in complete stealth mode. If you liked the Night Watchman because it is small and concealable then there’s nothing better than not looking like a taser at all.

It’s a great working and functioning flashlight that’s bright and well lit. That doesn’t stop it from packing a punch as a taser. The prongs run across the middle of the flashlight end of the device. It isn’t millions of volts but it has more than enough to drop any grown man.

In my opinion, a stealth taser is almost always a good option. And since they’re not very expensive you could have it as a backup or keep it in the car for walking to and from location at night. Either way, you should consider this taser as a must have.
