How Many Volts Does A Vipertek Taser Have

Are you interested in the Vipertek manufacturer? Maybe your asking how many volts does a Vipertek taser have? Or you want to know if Vipertek is worth it compared to other companies?

Whichever question brought you here I will make to sure to provide you with the most up-to-date information. It’s important to do research on a product before you buy it so that you can ensure you are getting the best deal possible and I’m going to help you do that!

First, it’s important to understand that Vipertek is solely a manufacturer of stun guns. A taser is a long-range device that fires projectiles at the target whereas a stun gun is a close-range impact device that you have to touch and hold to an assailant for 3-5 seconds, if possible. So! Now that we understand the difference, it is also important to understand that Vipertek manufacturers a range of stun guns that vary widely in voltage. The majority of their stun guns range in voltage from 30 billion upwards to 58 billion. This is a huge difference! We will go into details about what this means.

Not A Taser

The first thing to understand is the difference between a taser and a stun gun. Across the internet and in real-world situations too, the terms tend to be used interchangeably which is incorrect and can lead to confusion.

A taser, which is a loose acronym for Tom Swift and His Electric Rifle, is a long-range weapon that can usually shoot up to a range of about 15 feet. A stun gun, which is what Vipertek manufacturers, is a device that is close-range and needs to be held up to the attacker usually for about 3-5 seconds.

BILLIONS Of Volts!

Vipertek advertises it’s stun guns at billions of volts from 30 billion upwards of 58 billion. While this may seem nice, or even excessive, it’s a little bit misleading towards the consumers. The reason why is because the voltage advertised is usually the peak voltage. This is literally meaning that when you flip the stun gun on, it can peak to this voltage based on the internal wiring.

But! Once the electric current arcs across the prongs of the stun gun and has the resistance of a person’s flesh to deal with, it drops considerably. For example, a stun gun with 50,000 volts can drop to as low as 1,200 volts that actually get delivered into the body. This may seem like a dismaying number but it’s actually how it’s supposed to work!

Why The Volts Don’t Matter… But They Do

The voltage itself is like water pressure in a pipe. While it is necessary to have water pressure to move water through the pipe you still need two things. One is water and two is the current of the water which is the flow of the water itself. The current of water is synonymous to amps, and the amps are what causes the pain in a stun gun.

So with the voltage being the “water pressure” or essentially the penetrating power of an electrical current, it is only necessary to have about 25,000 volts minimum to penetrate through the heaviest clothing and skin of a person. That’s why when a 50,000 peak voltage stun gun comes in contact with a person the delivered volts is an average 1,200. It’s using up the volts to break through the resistance which is referred to as the ohms.

So, the volts of a Vipertek being at 30 billion or 50 billion or 100 billion doesn’t really matter because you’re only going to use about 40,000 of those volts to deliver the shock. So don’t let this advertising fool you and know that stun guns on the market will all range from 1 to 4 milliamps as far as true power is concerned.

This video will help you understand electric currents better using the water analogy:

Back To The Vipertek

So now that we have a clear understanding of the advertised voltage and the amps the last thing to consider is something called the coulomb ( C) or microcoulomb (uC). Referring back to our water analogy, the coulomb is the quantity of electricity or the amount of “water.” The more water (coulombs) that comes out the pipe, the wetter you get (the more pain you feel).

So, the testing procedure for this, while being intricate, has already been done for us! The general understanding in the stun gun world is that anything over 1 uC produces a high level of pain and falls into the category of a level 3 stun gun. For Vipertek this includes their two models which are the Vipertek VTS-195 (1.193 uC) and the Vipertek VTS-880 (1.050 uC).

Other Manufacturers

Just so you know, other manufacturers of stun guns are known for exaggerating the voltage. Some other stun guns that have been tested for their pain levels based on microCoulombs that fall into category 3 for pain include Sabre’s Stun Gun (1.16 uC), Guard Dog’s Diablo (1.072 uC), and the ZAP stick (1.043 uC).

This gives you a good array to choose from when doing your own product research. One thing to note is that Vipertek has a lifetime warranty on their products which is great!

Now You’re Informed!

Before, you might’ve been asking yourself how many volts does a Vipertek taser have? But now you know the difference between a taser and a stun gun and that Vipertek only manufacturers stun guns! You are even more of a conscious buyer now that you know the difference between voltage and amps so you don’t get fooled by hyped-up advertising.

You’ve also got a very deep understanding of how a stun gun causes pain and what to look for when you’re shopping around for the stun gun that is going to best protect you. I made a lot of recommendations here, but the Vipertek VTS-195 comes in at 1.193 uC which is going to cause the most pain and has a lifetime warranty. Awesome!
